At the time I was still in Vietnam, about 1980, there was a lecturer who was the former dean of the College of Agriculture, Forestry and Livestock. He was a vegetarian who only ate potatoes. He read and researched many Buddhist scriptures, practiced meditation diligently for a few years, and had many mystical experiences. He often had visions of the intangible world, some of them very significant and of great importance. He often saw himself riding on an Asian type dragon up to heaven and meeting with Amitabha Buddha who confirmed his root to be Amitabha himself.
Not many people understood the meaning of his visions, and when he recounted the story to his friends, who were from various religious faiths, they looked at him suspiciously and began to doubt his sanity.
At that time, since I had performed a few exorcisms which had become well-known, he came looking for me in order to find someone to confide in and sympathize with, as well as to increase his knowledge about religious doctrines and dharma. Since he was aware that I practiced the faith of Mantrayana and Vajrayana Buddhism (Tantric Buddhism), he told me this story in the hope of finding an explanation.
In his mother’s cabinet of Buddhist scriptures he discovered a book called “The Fundamental Thesis on Exoteric and Esoteric Buddhism of Becoming Buddha”.
In the book there is a brief discussion of the 5 mantras, Úm lâm- Úm xỉ lâm -Úm mani padme hum- Úm chiết lệ, chủ lệ, chuẩn đề ta bà ha – Bộ Lâm, which are said to be supported and protected by a countless number of buddhas, boddhisatvas, saints and deities.
There are 2 mantras that are very well known:
– The mantra Om (Um) mani pad me hum, can also be pronounced Án mani bát di hồng. The mantra is effective with either pronounciation. Tibetan Buddhism regards this mantra very highly. In the Chinese classic novel ‘Journey to the West’, it is said that in order to control the Monkey King, the Buddha pasted a Yantra with this mantra written on it on Ngu Hanh (Five Elements) mountain, which bear down on the Monkey King and kept him imprisoned there for over 500 years.
– The Cundi mantra is one that is known by every practicing Buddhist and belongs to the 18 Arms Cundi Bodhisattva worshipped in pagodas.
When Mr. Xech, the former college dean, experimented with these mantras by forming the Cundi mudra with his hands and chanting the 5 mantras (um lam- um xi lam etc..), he saw innumerable saints and deities in successive ranks riding the clouds and gathered in front of him. Among them, two Deities from the North and South Hemisphere (The Southern Canal and Northern Bushel constellations) appeared to him. They checked for his name in a book, and not finding it, were angry at him, accused him of stealing the Dharma, and wanted to arrest him because he had practiced the Dharma without it being transmitted to him through the lineage of gurus (or without proper initiation from a qualified guru).
When Mr. Xech told me this story I was not at all surprised. I had a young disciple who I initiated and to whom I passed on these 5 mantras. He practiced them every night. Even when he was tired he chanted the mantras lying down, and always saw innumerable rows of saints and deities appearing to him in the air.
I have widely propagated the method by which the Dharma is transmitted, called the Initiation ceremony or the Dharma Initiation, by way of a person who has been initiated, transmitting it, performing the initiation, to another person. This is the ceremony for the beginning lay person to enter the gate of the metaphysical school, to take refuge in GOD and Buddha, and to start his spriritual cultivation under their guidance. The person thus initiated will have innumerable bodhisattvas, saints and deities to protect and guide him/her until he/she achieves sainthood, deity status or Buddhahood.
Those who haven’t had the proper lineal transmission through initiation, but want to practice the mantras, can do so without fear, but they must not be arrogant. They can gradually eliminate bad karma (sins) and generate blessings. However they will not have as many mystical experiences and will not have divine powers to perform miracles.
Those who have had the proper Initiation will have protection and guidance from numerous divine beings to help them gradually become gurus capable of passing on the dharma and of performing many divine miracles in order to convert the masses.
I am the first person to spread Esoteric, Secret Buddhism, to everyone by having the person who aspires to learn metaphysics either pray in the name of God, or in the name of any Buddha, or any Saints, Deities that he/she reveres. He/she will immediately experience a metaphysical phenomena, a Divine sign, to prove that God, Buddha, the Saints have approved their Initiation, their enrollment as a disciple of metaphysics.
Thereafter they are allowed to follow whatever faith they sincerely believe in provided they obey this rule: Avoid evil, practice goodness, and cultivate good behavior. That is all that is required.
