Story 13 – Unity in Spiritual Traditions

Câu chuyện số 13 – Nguyên lý đạo là Một

This metaphysical narrative highlights the close bond between ancient Western religious mysticism and the esoteric teachings of the Old Guru. Despite appearing separate, mystic traditions from East to West are fundamentally unified, though this may not be evident to those without deep insight or divine enlightenment.
This is a story about John D (a pseudonym), an American Protesstant his life and activities from the 1960’s to 1979.
After completing his initial U.S. Army training, John D. served in various countries, including two terms in Vietnam, totaling approximately 5 to 6 years. He was discharged with the rank of Colonel from the counter-intelligence department and, at one point, served as an assistant to Mr. W. Colby. Following his discharge, he returned home to resume his family’s truck dealership business and also engaged in a partnership in export trading to Southeast Asian markets. John later became a representative for a consortium of approximately 50 large companies in his home state.

John received initiation into secret teachings from a disciple of Old_Guru. During the initiation ceremony, while praying to God the Father, he recounted in an email to me an experience: as he sat repeating to himself, “In the name of God,” he witnessed an image of himself sitting cross-legged. This image then faded to reveal a black diamond on a white background. About two to three minutes later, the image gradually vanished. As he pondered the meaning of this vision, he heard a voice saying, “You will understand… you will understand…”

Around the year 2000, John met me at the house of one of my disciples. During his visit, he observed about 10 disciples performing bowing rituals in front of the Buddha altar. It was explained to John that these bowing movements were not solely controlled by the individuals themselves but were guided by the Holy Spirit. Each person felt an actual force directing their movements.
When it was John’s turn to stand in front of the altar and pray, he experienced the guiding force of the Holy Spirit, which led him to kneel in front of me, off to the side.

At that moment, Sam (a pseudonym), employed by the American government, underwent initiation by me around 1993. Prompted by the Holy Spirit, he stepped forward and solemnly saluted me in a manner akin to military tradition. Sam, who is Jewish, practices yoga meditation, and adheres to a vegetarian diet, is also an experienced lawyer. Over the years, he has traveled to various countries in Asia. Standing erect and resolute, he held his chest out and tapped his feet forcefully on the ground after each salute. Sam repeated this salutation and repositioning ritual about 10 times before approaching John, who remained kneeling, and assisting him to stand. Guided by an unseen force, Sam directed John to stand straight with his feet together and then to bow his head. All movements were automatic, prompted by a divine force.

John then raised himself up from his bowing position and placed his palms together in front of his face. He proceeded to fully prostrate, laying his body and face down on the ground in front of me, following the Tibetan manner of prostration. During this, everyone observed John’s back shaking as he sobbed.

Next, the prompting of the Holy Spirit led another disciple to re-enact the scene of saluting with even more vigor than Sam. This disciple formed the mudra with his right hand at his head, brought his arm down to slap against his thigh with a loud noise, and stamped his feet fiercely on the ground. He repeated this movement pattern about 20 times.

And just as suddenly as it had come, the experience with the Holy Spirit’s force came to an end. Everyone began sharing their impressions of what they had observed and felt. John disclosed that while praying in front of the altar to request the Yantra (a symbolic picture used in ceremonial magic for initiation purposes) from Old_Guru Secret Teaching, he heard a voice telling him: “You are not ready” and “You do not deserve this yet.” Although he felt a little sad, he also felt touched and appreciative to have witnessed such a divine phenomenon. John shared that he had traveled here by airplane and had previously spent thousands of dollars to attend a spiritual conference in another city, but had not gained any spiritual experience there. Sam also expressed his appreciation for the experience, considering it something he would remember for the rest of his life.

He further confided that he and Sam were strangers until they shook hands and both realized they were brothers within the fraternity of Masons.
