1. Introduction to the Tarot Deck
The Tarot deck has a long history stretching over centuries. Originating in the 15th century, the Tarot was initially used for entertainment purposes as a playing card deck. It was not until the 18th century that Tarot began to be used for divination, especially after the addition of 22 major arcana cards, carrying profound spiritual meanings.
Among various Tarot decks, the Rider-Waite deck is considered the most important and popular traditional deck. Created in 1909 by A.E Waite and Pamela Colman Smith, the Rider-Waite deck consists of 78 cards, including 22 major arcana cards that represent deep spiritual lessons and 56 minor arcana cards reflecting everyday life. The deck conveys many meaningful moral messages, despite the Christian view that divination and Tarot are associated with the occult. In fact, some of the card imagery is inspired by the Bible and does not involve any demonic elements.
Daily, we can randomly select a Tarot card to draw a spiritual lesson for the day. Each evening before bed, we can reflect on the messages and lessons that the card reminds us to see how the card’s interpretation applies to our life.
