Story 10 -Mystical Practice of Invibility
Câu chuyện số 10 – Phép Tàng Hình by ThầyGià on 12 November 2008, translated by NgocXuan, edited by Horangi
In early 1980, Old Guru met a shaman known for exorcising spirits by swinging a bamboo stick through the air. This action would provoke screams and pleas from a possessed person in another room, ultimately leading to their liberation from the spirit. The shaman had two disciples who successfully used invisibility charms to evade capture under perilous circumstances. That day, the shaman presented me, Old Guru, with a yantra and its accompanying mantra, capable of rendering one invisible.
Thanh, who had been a deputy administrative officer until the South Vietnamese Government fell, was subsequently detained in a re-education camp for five years. Upon his release, having heard about me, he sought Initiation into Old_Guru Secret Teaching. After experiencing the divine confirmation for his prayer during the Initiation ritual, he told me the following supernatural story:
During his time at the re-education camp, Thanh struck up a friendship with a fellow inmate who shared similar circumstances. This young man confided in Thanh about his involvement in mystical practices since childhood, including being a member of a sect known as “The Thirty-Six Caverns”. Thanh revealed that whenever they faced tasks like felling trees or building houses, there were timbers too heavy for him to manage. However, the young man would recite a mantra, enabling Thanh to effortlessly lift and carry the heavy logs. Inspired by this miraculous assistance, Thanh sought initiation from the young man. Subsequently, whenever he meditated and chanted the mantra of the 36 caverns, he consistently heard bells ringing above his head.
During a period of respite from labor, the young man proposed that Thanh accompany him to the local market for a meal. Thanh was taken aback by the suggestion, as the camp’s gate was typically heavily guarded. However, the young man assured Thanh that if he followed quietly, they could leave the camp unnoticed. True to his word, they exited the camp gate without attracting any attention.
At the market, they enjoyed a meal, followed by coffee and cigarettes. The young man then produced some papers to settle the bill, which the restaurant owner accepted without question. After their outing, they returned to the camp using the same method they had employed to leave, successfully completing the round trip twice without incident.
On one occasion, Thanh queried why his friend didn’t use his magical abilities to escape. The young man responded that he believed he needed to atone for his past misdeeds.
Sometime later, I learned that Thanh had escaped from Vietnam and resettled as a boat refugee in Australia, sponsored by his brother.
The ability to become invisible through magic is indeed real, but it is a practice that requires authorization from superior divine beings. This authorization is necessary, especially when the skill is employed to confirm the existence and powers of divinities. However, like all forms of magic, there are significant consequences for its misuse, with severe retribution awaiting those who abuse it.
Until next time …
